In the Classroom
The major areas of our classrooms include:
Practical Life Area
This is the basis for the entire Montessori Classroom. It encourages the child to refine his/her movements. It fosters independence, coordination, a sense of order and concentration.
Sensorial Area
In this area, the child learns through the development of his/her senses. The child learns to make comparisons and to distinguish differences in:
- Color
- Size
- Shape
- Sounds
Math Area
The materials in this area are designed to foster:
- Number recognition
- The concept of 1:1 correspondence
- Addition, telling time, and place value (in the Montessori II Classroom)
Language Area
The materials in this area are designed to foster:
- Refinement of visual perception skills
- Writing skills
- Pre-reading skills
